Since we live here, we thought it would be good to share some ideas about our fine city.
NASA is one of the real draws for tourists to visit Houston.
When I ask "new" people how they like Houston, they always mention the diversity of Houston.
With a population of 4 million plus, it's easy to find things to do. I tell people if you go to San Antonio, it's easy to find a charming vista. Houston "does have charm", but you just have to go searching!
First, let's start with "when NOT to visit"! The summer! It's hot and humid from June to September, and we do have plenty of mosquitoes, so outdoor activities are "not as much fun" in the summer. BUT, from late September through May, the weather can be pretty agreeable. It rarely snows, but when it does snow, the city kind of shuts down. Probably better that way, since we don't know how to drive in those conditions. Rainy season is February (plus it's usually chilly). But you might see a shirt sleeve day in January!
